Magic is an intrinsic part of the world. But it is slowly fading from existence. The Mages Guild takes fewer and fewer candidates into its Academy with each passing year. Some races are rendered practically magicless such as the minotaur and the dwarfs, while others, elves and Eladrin among them, are barely touched at all by the loss. Humans have experiences a steady degeneration in the skill and number of their arcanists.
Divine magic is virtually nonexistent among all the races. While the Temples thrive the Gods rarely walk the earth or bestow their gifts on mortals. Those who do receive the gifts rarely immerse themselves in the church life though they are offered grand enticements to do so. Instead most tend toward a life of obscurity and wandering, passing on the teachings of their God to those who will listen.
The last of the disciplines Primal magic is deplored by society who view it as a low and bestial form of magic. Superstition abounds as to how primal magic is gained, some claiming that its users have congress with animals for a taste of their magic. Practicer’s are met with open scorn, hostility and often violence and murder, though few if any Lords punish their subjects for killing a user of primal magic. Families have been split apart when a child manifests a proficiency with it, kin killing kin. As such its practicer’s are reluctant to show themselves to the outside world. Legend tells of whole communities of primal magic users living away from society but no one has ever mapped where one might be.
